You haven't seen Spirited Away (Sen to Chihiro no kamikakushi)? It's really good, I recommend you watch it.

Spirit Away is already on my list of movies to see.

Ha, and my next journal entry planned to be: Top Movies People Freak Out About When They Find Out I Haven't Seen.

I would hardly describe my reaction as "freaking out." ¬.¬

Hence why I didn't put that one on the list. It just reminded me.

i can't believe the little mermaid is not on that list! wtf?!

oh, and you should add Les Triplettes de Belleville to your list. it's such a neat movie! there's really no diaglog, it's all music and noises the characters will make. might not sound too interesting, but it really is the animation and the music that comes together and mwa! le perfection!

oh, and another movie you should add to your list (if you haven't seen it), although not animated: The City of Lost Children...it's directed and stars some of the same from Amelie (which I'm sure you've seen, right?)

I didn't think of TLM, but I'm a bit surprised now that you mention it. It wouldn't make the cut for me, unfortunately. And I have seen Amelie. I wasn't crazy about it, but it was pretty good.

i love them all, but i think city... is my favorite.

ya, i guess i can see how the triplets... can get kinda repetitive. i actually heard the soundtrack before seeing the movie. i loved loved the soundtrack, so i was really just excited to see what went along with the songs. and i really liked the animation...

On Jean-Pierre Jeunet: I like that his films emphasize narrative over dialogue. It's easier to follow a foreign film when it is defined by actions rather than words. City was pretty darn goon.

On triplets. The music was good. I forgot about that... and the actual animation was entertaining. It's amusing how grotesque you can make an old french woman look if you draw her in caricature.

i agree with all of that if goon was supposed to be 'good' :)

The Triplets of Belleville. Unfortunately, I did not enjoy that movie. It made me impatient.

Ooooh. This is fuuun.
I have most of the Miyazaki and Otomo movies listed:

Spirited Away (#1)
Princess Mononoke (#3)
My Neighbor Totoro (#12)
Akira (#36)

Justin had/has Memories (#47), though I'm sure you already know this. It's worth watching.

Matt Tuck has Whisper of the Heart (#7). It has Japanese people singing John Denver, which is always... a treat :)

Amber has Tokyo Godfathers (#45).

I have been hearing about Interstella 555 (#25) for years and have always been fascinated with it.

I really enjoyed Ninja Scroll (#24), though I'm surprised to see it on the list.

For some reason, I want to see Watership Down (#33). And Persepolis (#6).
