New Year's Resolutions Status

Well, Q1 of CY08 is almost over, so I'm checking in on my resolutions. Last night it occurred to me that I hadn't gotten to any painting of the hallways, or of my car, and that made me remember my 08 resolutions.

Scripted Failures Indie Music Blog: We're not quite at twice a week like I wanted to be, but we're definitely hitting it once a week on average. It looks like around 4 or 5 a month. Not bad. I need to keep doing Friday Mixes, because those are easy posts, and it keeps me there, so I'm more inclined to post others.

I did a little painting last night. I got the front door primed, and the molding around that section of wall. It occurs to me that Painting Sucks, but if I don't finish this, I'll never get around to any more home improvement tasks. Before Kanthi's lingerie shower, we did buy new light switch and outlet covers, so that's a big step. I couldn't believe how cheap they were! I should've just done that from the start. My car hood is still not re-painted, but I have thought about it (how much does that count for?). I added to this resolution to clean out the interior.

The weather is ready for the patio in the backyard. I just need a free Saturday (this weekend is bad). I think I might take Rob up on his help-in-exchange-for-a-six-pack deal. I want to do it in one day if possible, maybe two, so I'm going to get help, all the supplies bought, and all the tools ready and at my disposal. I really lose momentum when I have to run to Lowe's in the middle of a project.

The year is about 1/4 over, and the status on most of these is still "planning on it." I suck.

ugh it does suck when a '10 minute run to the store' takes half an hour and all of your patience and momentum :/

And when you're all dirty, you have to clean up before you get in the car.

Many of these tasks would benefit from having some help. If you buy enough brushes and plastic ahead of time, you could have three people painting at once (as long as they know how to paint). As far as the patio work goes, and in your defense, we're just now hitting the season when people do their outdoor projects. Q1 weather isn't really the best for that. Even indoor painting is better when the weather is warm, because you can open up the house and get some air so you won't have to breath the out-gassing paint. Maintaining a house is a lot of work, by you'll get it done. And it will be so worth it.

When you have several people helping, you can send one to Lowe's while the project keeps moving.

Oh, and going to the hardware store dirty is a time-honored tradition. I once covered my car seat with beach towels and drove to Lowe's wearing muddy boots, a sleeveless undershirt and camos covered in concrete dust.
