Pictures from The Weakerthans Show

I posted these on the SF Blog, but for convenience, here they are as well:

P.S. Yes, I know they suck.

P.P.S. Yes, I'll put them behind a cut.

I was trying to take a picture of Jason here, and Stephen walked right into the frame.

From where I was, I couldn't get the whole band at once.  This is probably my favorite picture.

The flash was off, so it turned out extra-blurry

What do you mean, '?'?

You used a flash for some of these, to which I say, "BOOOOOOOOO!". :P

Ambient light FTW.

There wasn't enough ambient light. The shutter would stay open for too long, and there was way too much motion for that. They would've turned out even blurrier than they already are.

When you step up to an SLR, add this to your bag: Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II

I prefer the f/1.4 version, but it's more than 3x as expensive.

I probably won't take an SLR to a show, though. Too many people, and too much of a chance of breakage. I just need a slightly better point-and-shoot for now.

Meh ... No reason to not take an SLR, just don't set it on the floor or leave it on a table around a bunch of rowdy folks. That and a P&S won't match the aperture/ISO/noise combo you can get from even a bargain bin SLR.

Especially in a small show, an SLR shouldn't be a problem. A Rebel XT w/ 50mm lens is pretty small, by most measures, and will give you some really awesome images.

The Canon PowerShot G9 is the only P&S I'd recommend for low-light shooting, but it'll never hold a candle to a Rebel XT or XTi w/ a 50/1.8 on it. :)

It looks like the G9 is more expensive than the DR XT. I'm seeing the XT for as low as $300, but the G9 is $400 or more.
