Last Night

Megan worked last night, so I got the ol' taxes done. Looks like we're getting money back from both governments. Rock and..... Roll! That's right! "Pizza when you French fry, you're gonna have a bad time!" I love finding extra stuff I can deduct or credit. Taxes are fun (No need to comment on the fact that I'm in the minority here by a long shot). I also heated up some yams sweet potatoes in the microwave (I freakin' love yams sweet potatoes, just plain, nothing on em). When Megan got home, I watched the Jimmy Eat World performance on Letterman, tried to fix her damn Word document for class (Word can be so ornery sometimes), and got tired.

I went to bed at midnight again, with which I've been doing pretty well lately. I put on my headphones and played some of The Soft Bulletin. The Flaming Lips turns out is really great for going to sleep. By the time "Sleeping on the Roof" came on, I had dozed off and reawakened just enough to realize I needed to take my headphones off. I woke up at 8:00, snoozed once, and woke up again at 8:07, hit the snooze, and woke up at (wait for it) 8:45. WTF? I slept through (presumably) 34 minutes of my alarm wailing away. I shouldn't have been that tired. I've been doing ok on the sleep schedule this week.

What was the problem with Word?

Lots of problems. Most of it has to do with the fact that it's '07, and they changed a lot of behavior. Tabbing, Heading Styles, and Table of Contents stuff.

I think about 10 years ago, MS Word was just about as good a word processor as anybody wanted. Since then, they've continually changed it just for the sake of changing it.

My unfavoritist feature is its moving things around on the toolbars. I go to hit "superscript" and it's not where I put it. Since I hadn't used it for a few hours, Word figured it'd help me by rearranging my buttons.

And this business about hiding menu items you don't use. You don't use a feature because you don't know about it, and you'll never know about it because Word doesn't show it in its menus because you never use it.

Don't get me started. Let's not talk about pictures.

In that case, DON'T even THINK about buying OFFICE 2007. I'm worried you might decide to end your life upon using it.

Not much chance of that, but I might retire or something. You know how it works around here. You come in to work one morning and there's a nice new piece of software on your computer and nothing works like it used to.

I don't think I've had that experience yet. I'm still young enough to get excited about change.
