Joni Mitchell Is Right

"You don't know what you got 'til it's gone."

Last night I went to my parents' house to pick up an old string edger that my dad told me I could have. My mom is in Georgia taking care of my grandmother, and my dad was at Kiwanis, so no one was home. I had just left work, so I was starving, and after going inside to find the instruction manual, I decided to have a bowl of cereal. I noticed that the house was actually pretty chilly (It was mind-bogglingly odd that my dad would have the thermostat on anything less than 80 in the summer when I lived there). I went into the den and sat in the recliner and turned on the TV. I flipped through a couple of channels and The Simpsons was just coming on. It was also an episode I hadn't seen, as I stopped watching it regularly for several years until recently. So I was sitting there, in the chair, eating Frosted Mini-Wheats, and watching The Simpsons, and this sudden wave of nostalgia swept over me. For many years, I came home from school, had a snack, usually cereal, and watched a syndicated sitcom or two (it varied by Fox 54's schedule). The only thing missing was Joe, who was usually in the better recliner, hogging the cereal/milk and trying to make sure he got more bowls than me. I venture the company was a good trade-off.
